On Line and Face-to-Face: Mutually Exclusive?
Can face-to-face courses be translated into the online environment? Absolutely! The topics covered can be the same, but the methods for delivery and evaluation must be edited. Most course can be translated from the traditional learning environment to the online environment. The key is proper review and changes to fit the content to the learning environment, and carefully planning can accomplish this goal.
I have no problem with On-Line except those students who will get around in the system.
Ginger,
You and I are on the same path. I think delivery is the important part of this discussion!

I used to think that some courses just would not work online until I took a statistics course online in which the instructor made videos of each lesson as well as "minivideos" on specific concepts that students struggled with. Being able to review those videos over and over and over was probably the only thing that saved me.
Saundra,
Interesting, did the instructor communicate well? I do think that watching the videos can be the key, if students will watch them. (insert sigh here).

Yes I agree also. Live f2f courses can be taught online. I have done this and it works well. The topics can be the same and the outcomes just the transfer of the material is a bit different.
zara,
You are correct. It is in the course design and delivery. There are some wonderful opportunities to improve f2f courses by using online techniques. Just sayinn. . . . .

Ginger,
I think what you say is absolutely true and it is the translation of materials that is critical. What needs to be changed to meet the learning goals using the methods available in the online environment must be identified for the course to "translate" effectively.
Frances,
So true!!! Course design is so important in student success!
