Communication with students - utilize a variety of methods
What I have taken away from module one is to use a variety of communication tools to engage and interact with students. Each communication tool has pros and cons. These need to be evaluated, and then the appropriate tool utilized for the specific need(s) of communicating with the students of my course.
Terry,
I am glad you have taken away some meaningful information from this module. Keep on learning and trying new things in your online courses. Thanks for your input.
I like the suggestion to have formative feedback, not just summative feedback. I find students often offer summative feedback on their own, but only when stressed! Then they are more than willing to describe all the issues they had during the course with the technology. Asking for formative feedback would encourage them to speak up before they get frustrated, and it would allow the instructor to solve the problem so that the course is as effective as possible :)
Patty,
Agreed. Formative assessment can provide the students and instructor much information about the progression of the learning process.
Nice job.
Terry, that is a good summary. Do you feel that you often rely on certain tools more than others? I am just branching into audio and video messaging through email or announcements and find it quite interesting and effective.
Stephanie and Terry,
Please continue the conversation. We have to try new technology tools to keep current.
Thanks again.
I agree. Formative feedback is very important. When building online courses I offer multiple opportunities for formative feedback.
Sara,
I enjoy getting the formative feedback from students and making course revisions as needed. It has helped me improve my courses and my teaching. Thanks.
