Right Tool for the Right Function

This first module has opened up my eyes with regards to facititators choosing the correct communications media to interact with their students. We tend to overuse email and not stress other more intimate means of communicating with students.

Alvin,

Great! Glad you are now seeing things differently and glad you are learning through these modules. Take care.

I like the online chat. I think the best way to engage is to discuss, and although online discussion forums do a little of that, they leave out all the body language, voice tones, and words in print do not communicate excitement the way that a voice and a gestures can.

I like the idea of having discussions as a group, live. Ideally, when we have the bandwidth for it, I would like to be able to see and hear the students live, too.

Melinda,

And, there are so many good online chats nowadays. You can do chats many times through the LMS or use Google Hangout and many others. Thanks!

I think we tend to gravitate towards emailing since it is what we are used to using. However, texting is becoming more popular, along with the usage of text-spelling!

Darlene,

I actually use the discussion board FAQ section more than emailing or anything else. But, I have over 200 students in the course, so I do my best not to have email overload.
