Re: communicatiom
Managing communication is critical for effective teaching. It benefits both student and instructor. There must be an adherence to a "code of conduct" and standards, in short effective communication in the classroom ensures successful interaction with student and instructor.
karen,
Communication is key to any instructional environment, but especially in the online environment. The code of conduct and appropriate standards is a great way to start the "conversation" about communication. Nice job.
Karen Scotti,
I agree -- effective communication does ensure successful interaction. You are correct, being able to establish communication standards and protocols is essential in managing a course through the online environment, and ensuring that student success if achieved!

Terry,
Engaging students in the communication process (any way you can) is essential. Without effective communication and helping students understand the expectations, they cannot achieve the set learning outcomes. Thanks!
In addition to establishing a communication code of conduct the need for and establishment of consequences for missing the mark is also value added. Lack of a consequence negates the value inherent in the code of conduct. Understanding that instructors and other students share the responsibility of enforcement demonstrates acceptance of the code.
Lynn ,
Right on. When you have a code of conduct, there must be consequences. Every decision has a consequence and it is important to have those consequences laid out for all to understand. Thanks!
