How much is too much?

Communication in the virtual class is as important as communication for a student who attends class in a bricks and mortar setting. The environment should be personalized to grab the student's attention. Students should be encouraged to introduce themselves in the class forum. If students are aware of all the expectations required for the course, they too, will follow the instructor's lead.

Diana,

Communication is essential. You are so right. Communicating the high expectations and making sure all students understand those expectations is a key factor to success. Thanks!

Hello Dr Crews,
I would like to piggy back off your previous statement and state that it is extremely important for the student to understand the course expectations and requirements. Consistent communication and feedback is key in the online classroom.

Genieve,

Thanks for your input. Your are right on target with your comments. Communication and feedback are essential to help the students reach the course goals. Thanks!

Genieve,
You are so correct. How can we expect the students to automatically know what is expected of them if they are not informed in the beginning.

Shirley,

Right on. You both bring up very good points. We have to keep our students informed and make sure they understand the expectations. Thanks!

Course introductions is the perfect time to layout the classroom rules, goals and expectations so you can get everyone as a group focused and hopefully alleviate any potential classroom distractions to be most productive during class time.

Ed,

You are right. We do course introductions right up front and we can set the stage at the same time. Thanks!
