examples of desired communication

Design an assignment that ask the classroom, what will motivate you to become more involved in the weekly classroom discussions?

Akilah,

It is a god question to ask students, npbut what do you think would motivate students to participate?

If I was using my rubric, you would both get marked down for grammar/spelling. ;)

Julie,

Good point. We try to hurry on these forums some times and make mistakes ourselves. ;-0

I agree, Julie. :0 (lol)

But moving on... The sample forum PDFs we provide in our course material really helps guide our students.

When students review the PDFs, improvements in the conversations take place almost immediately. It may take a week or two but there are clearly positive changes when students post.

I also monitor the forum and may need to send an email with reminders to individuals from time to time. However, most of the students seem to get the point of the forums and communicate and collaborate well. They also understand the corresponding point value guidelines of the rubrics.

Lyn and Julie,

Thanks for continuing the conversation. Samples and examples are always helpful to students. When they understand what they are "getting into" they are more likely to be engaged. Thanks!
