You make a great point. You need to make sure it is a good fit for both the course objectives as well as the students. You are the one who directs students to the content and you will have to make sure your students are ready for it.

There are some challenging in assessing media that students present for their contribution to the online environment Here are a few that I have observed over the years in student’s posting media to discussion boards: (1) Is it appropriate for the class audience? Although we teach diverse students of the values of what is appropriate to one student may be offensive to another. (2) Is the political content or social content to controversial that it would steer students away from the objectives of the course outcomes. (3( Is the media relevant to the assignment or objectives? Good question.

I am not sure there is one if you can determine the objectives of the assessment. You could use a rubric to set expectations of the course.
