Making a Change
I have been working in for a great company for almost 7 years, teaching, then being a program director and now an Associate Dean, but it is not until now that I am beginning to feel disatisfaction in my job. Mostly because my job is putting out fires and my passion lies in teaching, development and creation. I would hate to move back down and I love my company. Any ideas for where to look next?
Tyson,
this is a tough one. Are there any opportunities for you to fulfill your passion in some ways in your current role? Can you do some teaching, development & creation while still putting out fires? You might be able to fulfill the passion while still slogging through the other duties.

I am in the same situation as you. When is too long to wait on making a change? I'm interested in going form my MBA. Should I wait and look for a job in a different field first?
Mauro,
this is definitely a difficult question. I personally tend to lean toward start working on the degree & continue pursuing other options as well.

Hello,
I think the ideal situation would be to take those things you are passionate about--teaching, development, and creation--and design policies you can teach to others on avoiding the fires or managing through crises.
It sounds like the new problems are risks that cannot be avoided. Also moving back won't solve the problems, and you still might be involved in putting out fires as an unintended, far-reaching consequence.
Of course, you are the best person to determine if this advice is useful or not. By now I hope things have settled.
