Training
What are some ways to make training different and fun? We do continuous training but what can we do to keep it interesting and fun?
Melanie,
Games, challenges,role playing for starters.
I think the quiz back in excellent. More of those would make sure people are reading and retaining
We conduct "BEACH BALL" training weekly! Our manager will pick up an inflatable beach ball during a team meeting and ask a question such as "Can you give me placement rates over the phone" and throw the ball to rep! After answering, the rep poses a question and throws the ball to another rep!! It's fun and its a great way to practice and to alway BE ON THE BALL!!!
Douglas,
Thank you for the feedback.
We try to bring the subject matter to life by asking how they use a particular application. Students are asked to relay real world expereinces to illustrate a point. Quite often we also ask experts in teh field to attend class to bring the product to life. A student may bring an example in too.
Podcasts are also becoming very popular learning tools.
Really differentiated instruction is the way to go to stop the boredom.
I use powerpoint presentations interlaced with humor. Some sarcastic but always good natured. We also offer little prizes for the best answers to the hard questions.
I agree with others who have stated that it makes training more interesting when it is fun. We have used a Jeopardy format to answer questions about training topics. I loved doing that and was able to test my knowledge about topics.

Playing games is always fun and really engages everyone for participation. I liked dividing the staff and playing “Admissions Feud.” Just like the Family Feud game with Richard Dawson but the entire question base is regarding your school.
William,
A little humor in the right place and at the right time can ease your student.
Tyler,
Love the game idea! People in admissions are naturally competitive...bet you have a blast!
Marcus,
Awesome....now you have me thinking...
We like to have weekly games where we have set up a points system for completing certain aspects of the enrollment process. On a weekly basis, the points are tallied and the top two teams compete in some kind of challenge, which changes every quarter/semester (currently, we do Minute to Win it challenges).
Andrew,
Your admissions department must be very competitive. Sounds like great fun.
