I think the key to meetings is to have the agenda laid out clearly and pushed out to all participants at least a day before the event.
That way everyone knows what information is being covered.
What information to bring to the meeting.
More importantly it is on track and focused, and productive to the team.
We have meetings with other departments several times a week. Some of those departments are student services, financial aid, and academics. And the admissions department as a whole has a meeting every Friday morning. We also have one-on-one meetings with the Director of Admissions once a month.
Meetings can provide not only good information, but also afford staff an opportunity to discuss applications of policies and procedures. Remote locations, such as the site where I am located, are able to participate electronically. Communication is extremely important. In addition to formal meetings, informal discussions can also be helpful.
Monthly meetings with the staff updates us with new policies, problems we are encounting, possible solutions to the situations we encounter and input from the office staff to enable us to be team players. Training includes new software programs, updated paperwork, any changes in the program to include fees, new classes, feedback from staff, new ideas, etc.
What meetings do you attend to learn more about your job, admissions policies, regulatory requirements, and your institution?
In Services, PAC Meetings, FAPSC Training, Networking Events, Education Meetings, and other Employer sponsered activities.

Regular meetings keep us focused and on task. Since we have goals in admissions, it is important for the team to know where they are and what the goals are. Cheering each other on with successes and assisting the team in meeting the goals is part of this process.
Patty Aronoff
Wendy,
Technology today affords us the opportunity to have meetings through the web. Your retreat is an opportunity to bring everyone together that may not have had the oopportunity to meet in person. Both are a way to keep teams working together.
