Great insights, Jason. How would you adapt your style to the style of let's say a Gen X'er or a Baby Boomer? What might you do differently?

I find the two groups you mentioned like face to face talks that get straight to the point. They like the facts laid out for them in a precise manner before they make their decision.

I deal strictly with HS seniors and their parents. So I might be able to use Humor with the student but often need to back of the humor with the parent (buying commitee). It is an interesting scenario to say the least.

Thanks for sharing, Jason. It sounds to me like you try to be cognizant of the individuals in front of you and adapt to their styles. Keep up the good work!

my style is a combination of generation x and traditionalist i think. i am a product of my generation, born in 75 but i was very close to my granfather--whose values had a big impact.

Excellent observation, Josh, thank you for sharing. What specific traits from each generation do you most identify with?

Probably the directness of the traditional. And the body language of the gen x'ers.

Interesting. Thanks for sharing your personal observations, Josh!

Although I was born in 1982 I have more qualities of a Baby Boomer than Generation X. Both of my parents are Baby Boomers and I am an only child so most of my life has been spent around them. I am a workaholic and very ambitious much like my parents.

Great insights, Richard. It sounds like your parents have had a great influence on you and your work ethic. I imagine there are other qualities of the Baby Boomer generation that you appreciate and exhibit based on your parents. Thanks for sharing your observation.

I AM A 60 YEAR OLD WOMAN WHO FALLS UNDER THE GENERATION X CHARACTERISTICS. THIS IS DUE TO MY UPBRINGINGS GROWING UP PARTLY IN THE ISLAND OF HAITI AND IN THE U.S.

Thank you for sharing your insight, Yvette. Many individuals find that they relate to the characteristics of other generations based on their upbringing, history, and beliefs. How might this awareness help you in connecting with your students?

Not Surprised, but my Generational Style is Gen X. However, I do see attributes from other generational styles. Being raised by my grandparents and within my family all together. Considered myself to be a human sponge. I love collaborating with others. Very colorful in aura, and can adapt in many different environments. Very competitive, in a fun way and have an entrepreneurial spirit. Have made many connections through various social media sites. Constantly staying connected with the world and how I can contribute to today's society!

I believe I am closer to a Generation X'er. Although I am a Millennial, I would rather speak to a person during any interaction. I also have entrepreneurial aspirations and enjoy feedback.

Thanks for sharing this Jessica. Family dynamics can certainly play a role in your style too. It sounds like you try to stay connected by using a variety of styles, which in turn will help you build rapport with a variety of people.

Brannon,
Great insight! So how might your preferences help or hinder you in dealing with others who don't share the same viewpoint?

Dr. Jean Norris

Even though I technically am a millenial, I tend to have more attributes associated with a traditionalist and baby boomer. Specifically my work ethic and loyalty. I believe this is true because of the way I was raised by my parents and grandparents, who are baby boomers and traditionalists respectively. Overall I feel like I have attributes from each generation.

Thomas,

Very interesting! It makes sense that your family influences have impacted your behaviors too. Great mix!

I'm a Baby Boomer, but I am learning something new about myself each day I work with the younger, Millennial Generation. They inspire me to step out of my comfort zone and take more control over how I learn. Also, I do value positive reinforcement in my job. I think we all do. It helps me know that I'm appreciated.

Sharon, that is a great point. It sounds like you are using others to help you broaden your experience. This will help you gain new tools and resources for connecting with those from different generations. Keep it up.

Dr. Jean Norris

I'm a Gen X'er without a doubt. I think that it's just a matter of the environment I was raised in.
