People often underestimate professional networking, thinking it's time-consuming or uncomfortable. However, their perspective changes when they realize its benefits, like accessing hidden job opportunities and gaining industry insights. Misconceptions include seeing networking as transactional or for extroverts only. People may feel anxious or overwhelmed about networking. But with guidance, a growth mindset, and a supportive environment, individuals can gain confidence and succeed in their networking efforts.
I appreciate the resources provided in this module, especially those on establishing personal branding and reframing the concept of networking. I hope to emphasize with students the importance of reaching out to healthcare facilities in the area to setup informational interviews or speak with hiring managers. Almost every employer is hiring, but we want to help reduce the high turnover rates by coaching students on how to become more aware about a job/employer before accepting a position.
The importance of your online presence- using professional social media like LinkedIn but also keeping your personal social media in good standing. Being aware of the industry and companies you want to work for, and reaching out to create relationships. Also, I think digital portfolios will be the resumes of the future.
