Find a word game sounds great as a class electricity game.(Use the ten main words in the electricity chapter, place them around your department and other departments that uses electricity and have the student find the word, then add the definition to the word when they get back to class). The person with the most correct answere win a small prize. You will be surprise to find how hard students will work for a sucker.

I have a game very similar to this. It's called "Make a new friend Bingo." I have each student take a BINGO card that I have created with fun quirky things like: been married more than once, has been skydiving, speaks more than 2 languages - then each student walks around the room and if they find someone who meets that criteria, the person must sign the bingo space. Whoever yells BINGO first wins a prize. It fun for the students and for the faculty and staff. Most of all, the faculty and staff participate and students get to know us as well and develop a level of comfort with us.

I have the students play a "getting to know you" game where they go around the room and try to find as many things in common (e.g. birthday month) that they have with others to see who can come up with the most.

I really like this exercise! Nice twist on interviewing another student and introducing them to the class.

The students like the compitition and the reward is normaly a prize of their choice. I think it helps them learn the material in a bigger picture.

On the first day of class, the student will write on a small card a hobby,a different or interesting job they have had or a sport they participate in. But no name is on the card. These cards are place in a box and each student takes a card. They then have to go around to each student and try to find the person that had filled out the card. They then have to get more information about that student and introduce them to the class.

Depends on the class dynamic too. I made a board game and most of the students had fun, you rolled and had to answer a question in order to move forward. If you didn't get it right you had to move the same number you rolled back. Broke the class into teams. Most classes had fun! Then I got a class that hated the whole thing, told me they were adults and they didn't want to play games, they soured the whole thing so much I stopped using the game.

This sounds like a great exercise....not only does it get them up and moving around but also gets them familiar with the terminology

I have all of the new students do a lab scavenger hunt to see if they will relate standard tools and household items to surgical instrumentation just to show them that a tsp spoon is called a spoon in surgery. This seems to be a big hit and helps break the ice of being new to the program.

Yes I have a Memory game they uses pennies for memory and the student are into who is left with a penny at the end of the games..

Hands on activities always help students, personel retain materials and it is fun for all to co-operate. it also will excite them and keep them wanting to come to class.

I find that using part of the skeletal bones and having them put the correct ones together to make a body part help them. I have each table (2 students) become a small clinic, each clinic has a different patient to screen, the illness or injurs relates to that weeks terms. Next I will ask them to build me the right leg, left arm... the fun part is when they all need the same body part. The students like the compitition and the reward is normaly a prize of their choice. I think it helps them learn the material in a bigger picture.
