Admissions retention
The information is really good :), I think there is always something to work on V-. I would like to put into practice the checklist and self checklist to help our admissions department identify and help our prospect students and improve retention ^-).
Yes, a checklist is a great idea to ensure consistency. Standardization of the process will help you to improve retention.

I also agree. The checklist and self checklist are valuable to the institution as well as the prospective student. I also like the fact that there are usually commonalities among individuals that help focus them in one direction.
I agree that an admissions checklist is helpful for retention. In addition, the idea of checklist would work during the student's stay in the program. checklist should be used throughout the student's attendance in the program and examined by other than admissions including program chairs.
Rachel, checklists are great, and even teachers should consider the notion? Why? In a funny way, teachers are forced to stay focused on course objectives. Just a thought.

Since I am involved in the academic side of an online learning environment, I have no idea whether or not our admissions department uses check lists and student completed self-check lists. Those are questions I will need to find the answers to!
Dara,
Okay, take the time to find out. Online retention is an issue for many organizations. So, think about how you can help to link to new students early in the process. Establish a relationship and connect with new students. Just linking early will help students to feel comfortable.

I agree with you about the checklist. This would help the student know if the program is really for them as well as make them think about what is expected of them. I feel with our programs the students feel that this will be a walk in the park, they do not realize how much work is involved in being a Chef.Once some of them get in they drop because it is not what they expected. The checklist for the admission reps will help them identify the commonalities with each student. This is what I feel we need to do in our admission process to get the students that have a true passion for cooking not the ones who just wants to do it because they think this is what they want to do.
Good for you. Yes, checklists work. Do you think you can arrange for this to happen?
Dr. Banks
I really think the check list is a wonderful idea. However, at our school we cover many disciplines. It would be hard to administers.
The checklist is a great idea. Establishing consistancy will help greatly with retention.
Checklist work great. Remember, the key is to build a relationship with the student. Sometimes lists prevent us from doing social interaction. In other words, don't be too mechanical. People need a personal connection.

Ah, but should you compare stories. What is being said, needs to match. Otherwise, you will most likely lose students. Make sense?
Dr. B
The checklist may also be helpful for the academic advising department. I have often noticed that once a student starts how quickly they forget what they signed up for! I would be a good way for an advisor to understand the student's expectations and help to clear up any misconceptions they may have about the program.
Yes, checklist help students to remember and locate. More to the point, all people know what is being said. This is the key, all staff need to be sharing the same story.
