I have learned about common pitfalls that result from lack of understanding by a school's multiple departments and their respective goals. The mindset and pressure on retention efforts for admissions is not the same as that for faculty, or that for student services. It is important to recognize everybody's role and understand how to communicate our efforts and limitations with each other. Students need to see that cohesive message coming from the institution as large.
I intend to push for increased transparency and communication efforts, as well as cross-training to better understand each other and support our students together.
