Small school perks

I think a great benefit of being with a small school is building relationships with students and them feeling comfortable to come speak with us at anytime about what they need. I think this also helps with retention as we can identify quickly those students that are stuggling and help come to a solution to hopefully help them succeed in the program.

I agree.  While our school has declined in its enrollment over the last few years, I've actually seen it as a positive.  My lecture classes are smaller and more intimate, which I think has helped to create more of a "hands-on" feeling.  Plus I get to know each student and their needs more specifically.

Small schools allow students and staff to become more interpersonal. This also allows the students to gain trust and respect for the staff and staff is able to encourage the students. There is more 1 on 1 time with the students to understand some of the stuggles they may be facing during class time. The retention rate is more accessible because you will tend to miss a student from class faster than in a larger classroom setting in a larger school.

Thanks

I also agree with this assessment. The relationships that we build with our students is the most satisfying part of the job.  Being a smaller institution allows admissions staff to develop a more intimate relationship with the students. Even the Dean knows the students by name. We treat our students as individuals and not just an FTE. Most of them really put their trust and faith in us that we will guide them properly to degree completion.
