After completing a course it is good to take a moment and reflect on how the course went. Review the student evluations, scan your notes and think about what you want to do the next time you teach the course. Instructors should always strive for instructional improvement but it content or delivery so once the course is completed think about how improvements can be made. Ask yourself questions like:
- am I going to introduce new content?
- if so how much?
- what if I use different media?
- what about some new examples?
- should I develop new assignments?
- etc.
The idea is that you question what you have done and how you can do it better the next time you have the opportunity to teach the course. There are two benefits that come from working through this process--the course is improved and the changes you make help to keep your excitement level up.
