About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Your point is well made in terms of the educator being the catalyst for learner engagement and enhanced learning. The intent of the statement about the power of data is that data helps to clarify and guide instructors as they create adaptive learning tools that will be effective with students. The "human factor" meaning the instructor is still the linch pin in the learning process.

James, Sometimes when they are worn down going to school they need to be reminded of how far they have come in their learning. Your comment about helping them see they are moving closer to their goals is a good one because when they are reminded they can get ramped back up and finish the course with vigor. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Ashlie, Excitement is catching so your comments are right on about how to get students engaged in the learning process and show yourself as a true learning leader. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Ashlie, So true. The first impression is the foundation upon which the rest of the course is built so it needs to be a good one. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Ashlie, Clear goals and objectives are essential if the students are going to have a clear understanding of where the course is going and what the expectations are. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Ashlie, Right you are about getting students engaged through the displaying of your passion for your field and then bringing enthusiasm for teaching about it. This is a win win combination for your students and yourself as the learning leader. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Sarah, I support your point about instructor passion for his or her field as well as enthusiasm for teaching about it. The more these two are brought to the class the more excitement there will be in the class. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Camille, Good way to get input from all students and let them see the value of course participation. Once they see they are valued for their input they will increase their participation and the course will hold more value for them. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
John, The more examples you can find and use the better because by using them you are increasing the value of the content to the students. Many students as you know do not value core or academic courses as they think they have no place in their training yet they do because they are foundational skills they need to have in order to be successful in their career. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Valerie, Good for you. These words and messages of encouragement go a long way in helping students to stay in school and work hard to be successful in their course work. Sometimes we forget how much influence a supportive word can have from a student's learning leader. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
