Diversity in the Workplace

I read some comments the other day about diversity in the workplace. It goes without saying that we manage diverse staffs on our career college campuses and universities. And our faculty also teach a diverse student population. We have always known that a component of diversity is, of course, respect for others' cultures, customs and mores. Yet, it is also so much more.

What is your definition of diversity in the workplace and how can we maximize the value of the wonderful cultural differences among our faculty and staffs?

great idea

respect diverse student population and cultures

I feel that diversity is a way of defining personality differences amongst people. the best way to maximize the value of differences is to embrace and respect people for who they are, not what you want them to be.

Diversity in the workplace to me is basically having as many different backgrounds and cultures present in your staff.  Not that these things would be discussed, but to ensure that any student or client or staff member can feel comfortable knowing that we do follow a non discrimination policy when hiring.  Anyone no matter what race, religion, sexual preference, etc is welcome in your workplace.  I truly believe that it can maximize the value of the wonderful cultural differences among our faculty and staff because if everyone works hard and is a committed team member it can help us truly show our students what kind of experience we all have as a team.  The more experience we have the better we can serve our students and clients.

We enriched ourselves by the diversity of people around our workplace and campus.  We learn from each other........it is like a melting pot of people, knowledge and respect.
