Games seem to work better.
So, I decided to play a game in my class. I played a matching game, the students had to actually get up for it. It worked, quiz scores were great!
My students enjoy games as well. Our text book publishers have websites for the various books. I utilize the student verisons nearly every class. They offer a variety of games and almost always flashcards. Look online for other sources. I found a jeapordy game which is quite fun and most recently started using an online "poll" for preexam review. The students enjoyed the "poll". They were able to answer anonymously and it was fun to watch the results come in.
Any thing to break from the monotony of text book readiing and questions. Students like a little competition and chances to engage with each other
Yes I agree that playing games works so well, even for adult learners! I play the quick pick three- after a short lecture time, I ask everyone to write down 3 things they learned from the lecture, then pass it to the left, then they read aloud.
At least its good for a chuckle, and acts like a review at the same time.
Love playing games it makes learning fun..
I found wordsearch and crossword puzzle helpful. There are great learning tools. I divided the class in group. The group that wins will receive a compensation.

For a "miniproject" I have my College Math Foundations class create their own word searches and crossword puzzle (of course the criteria outlined for them must be met). Sometimes a few of them are perfect for me to actually use with Jr. High classes I also teach as a reinforcement of vocabulary (once the daily assignment is completed.) I try to have a few of these ,as well as other simple activities ,for early finishers>
I think playing games are great. I have invented all kinds of different games to play in my classroom with adult learners and believe it or not they love it!
Hello and I can not agree with all of you that "learning with FUN" is very effective at any level.
I have used "FUN" related activities even on the adult level for over the last 10 years.
Attendance in my classes are for the most part 100%.
I could not agree with any teacher who uses "FUN"' this to promote learning in the classroom.
Think about using play - doe .....works great for any model !!!
Some times I use the "online" games that the text books use. When I do that, the people generally get excited, and more into the lessons. Some even have gone so far as to access the games and use them at home. This causes them to have better marks.
