I couldn't agree with you more Kimberly.  Being an instructor does not mean you know everything about the subject you are teaching.  I cannot tell you how many times a student will bring up a question that I don't have the answer for and it challenges me to keep up with all the new information that is constantly being disseminated, especially in my field of medicine. I tell my students all the time that I don't know everything, because there is just too much to know, but together we will find out.  I encourage them to understand that I will be teaching them from day one until they are done with the program, but their learning is a lifetime experience. No one should stop learning because learning enriches your life.

Hi to all,I am  firm believer that when you stop Learning you stop living. I really enjoy when graduated students come back and visit and tell me about thier field experiences. The only way I can stay current as to what is going on today, is with thier feedback.

As the instructor we are also and always students as well. Keeping up to date with current technology is always a learning process. As we learn more we can teach more and be more effective in the classroom.

You bring up some very valid points about learning.

Being an instructor can be challenging sometimes, but the rewards are awesome. You get an oppotunity to get to know your students learning styles. Adapt your class to meet those needs and have alot of fun doing it. I like to mix and match different styles from hands on to working on the computer to games to test their knowledge. I have grown as an instructor by understanding how others learn.

For nearly 7 years, I had taught Professional Studies to juniors and seniors at a NYC university. The work experience was incredible and helped define where I would teach next. Teaching adult learners is absolutely challenging, motivating and simply rewarding. I am so proud to be a part of a career college and focusing on helping the next generation of students. We all need to keep our course material diversified from bringing in a guest speaker (when relevant) to providing students with current written materials related to a topic which lets your students know you are passionate about what you do.

I just started full time teaching 9 weeks ago, at the beginning of a 10 week term. I knew it would be fun and challenging and a lot of work, but I had no idea how much work. I can't wait till I can teach these same classes again as I have so many ideas and with the help of MaxK, the skills to do better and have even more fun (with less work) next time!
