This was helpful: Searching the Internet for rubrics themselves may also be more productive that building your own.

I found this helpful: Some instructors may implement a method referred to as backwards planning. You, as an instructor, are a designer of student learning. Questions to consider are: What do you want your students to learn? What do you want them to able to do? How much do you want them to improve?

I thought that this was an important note: Rubrics can also restrict the students’ creativity.

I thought this was an interesting note: Active learning can promote people skills.

I thought this was a good tip: Instructors can set up a competition between team blogs on finding the best research on a particular course topic.

Active learning is important to incorporate and to explain its importance the students in the online classes.

I thought the table with negative connotations and corresponding alternatives was helpful. I have been changing the word problems to challenges in our writing as well. Using Opportunities instead of Mistakes is a good tip. However I am not sure if I agree with the use of Emoticons, feels unprofessional to use with students unless you have had a good amount of interaction with them.

Found this interesting: Although online students are likely to use the phone to interact with institutional personnel, text-based technologies dominate online learning programs.

I found this interesting:

Education professionals should be familiar with the no significant difference phenomenon (NSD). This phrase refers to a body of research that indicates “the mode of delivery of education has no effect on student outcomes” (Western Cooperative Educational Telecommunications [WCET], 2010, FAQ section).

Excelsior College surveyed more than 1,500 CEOs and business owners and found that “83% of them strongly believe a degree from an online college is as credible and valid as one from a traditional campus-based school”

I was surprised to find out that retention is not a major focus in most colleges. I feel we can work on being more proactive with student retention.
