Well just to elaborate when allowing to let the students feed off one another helps turn on the light bulbs of understanding an comprehension an the over all goal of helping them learn from more than just the instructor an enhance there feeling of accomplishment
listening to the students an what they have to say shows the student that you care about what they are saying
which is better showing the student how to do it or letting them watch each other
If we just take the time to answer a closed ended question perhaps with a no, then say "and let me explain why I said no." This is just what Gen Yrs want.open ended questions do help mget more answers from the students. Give a reason for a descision, a task, a reading assignment...give them a relevant reason to do what you have asked them to do. This approach works so much better, draws a conclusion and everyone walks away happy and informed. Works for me!

I can't understand why the phones are part of everyday life. Everywhere I go signs tell put phone away or turn off for service.the furturev may change to phones as a learning divice I think it makes us forget how to think. Just pull out the old phone and get an instant answer
It is important to realize the method of learning of your own generation from when we were in school to today may be different than the other generations represented in your classroom. we need to adjust to all learners.

Even teaching the same course repetitively is different every time, isn't it?it is certinally not cookie cutter The first couple of class sessions you have to 'read' the class to really do the best possible job.
helping students over come personal limitations is key to helping them not only in school but in real life.

it's the little things that make the difference. Giving the student a little attention makes them feel that you care and improves there self confidence and there abilities.
managing class is also about keeping in mind your students needs with there academic skills how long they been out of school and how rusty they are at this time.
