Students learning at their own pace can be both a good thing and a bad thing.

Email is one of the most effective ways to communicate with students; check email daily and respond to student emails quickly.

Providing feedback an important part of the grading process. It helps students see what they did well, as well as where they can improve in the future.

Instructors should prepare the course prior to the start date, link videos in the announcement, and provide students with a self-assessment at the beginning of the course.

E-Learning is largely independent and self-directed. Therefore, some students will procrastinate. To help with procrastinators, I can send announcement reminders about completing assignments, as well as send individual emails to students to remind them to submit assignments.

There are different learning styles that instructors should be aware of. Avoidant students can become overwhelmed and dependent students must be told what to do and how to do it. Also, feedback is crucial in an e-learning setting. Instructors must be mindful of non-verbal feedback; use constructive criticism when necessary but always provide feedback in a way that encourages future participation.

Let students know a bit about me by including a short bio about my professional experience. Also, have students participate in a discussion on day one where they introduce themselves and then respond to others in order to get to know other students in our course.

It is important to become familiar with the LMS, as well as the content/requirements/assignments posted throughout the course. Although instructors will teach lessons differently, each class and instructor is working towards a common goal. It is important to know how to navigate the LMS in order to be able to answer questions that students might have.
