I found that there is a hierarchy, there are other agencies that supersede FERPA.

The key takeaway for me is that the institution must have policies to ensure the privacy of educational records. There are many instances where employees do NOT have the right to students' grades but may have access.

FERPA policies must be understood by everyone. If in doubt this should be escalated to the administration. Realistically educational records are confidential and should only be accessed when people have a legitimate reason.

Student educational records require the same level of confidentiality as medical records in the hospital. Which makes complete sense, just something I never really thought about in detail.

All staff and students must be educated on sexual harassment, domestic violence, rape, and stalking. There also needs to be a known understanding of what consent looks like. This education must be ongoing to ensure there is an increased awareness on campus and for all students. Information provides a powerful tool to help prevent misconduct.
Notifying the police should be highly encouraged for several reasons, it allows for criminal proceedings to be initiated and helps the campus remain a safe environment for both students and staff.
The Title IX Coordinator is crucial in creating a safe and inclusive environment within the campus where all students can thrive.
I was aware of Title 9 as it relates to athletics however, I am just learning about VAWA and the Clery Act. This is crucial on college campuses.
Great instructors are motivators who know their students and build a rapport with them bringing knowledge to life through instruction and past life experiences.
This session introduced new opportunities in the classroom, that I intend on using.
