I love opening class with a fun activity. These "ice breakers" really help you to learn who your students are as people and not just as learners. :-)

It is essential that we meet our students' needs. Intrinsic and extrinsic motivation must be noted in order for students to be successful.  

It is essential to vary your teaching style to engage students throughout each class period. 

I really struggle with names - I have always had to pass back papers to learn my students' names. I like the name tent idea along with images of the students with their names below. 

I loved the video on setting the tone for the classroom where the instructor arrives early and takes that time to greet students. 

Thus far, I have learned the importance of maintaining professionalism in the school environment - this means not only being professional with my colleagues but also with my students. Additionally, it is important to remember that everyone brings something to the classroom "table" that must be respected and utilized to enhance student outcomes.
