I appreciated the sample rubric!
Reply to Becca Humphrey's post: I valued this portion of the training because that was my initial reaction and question..."how do I grade something like this?"
Because I am minimally active on social media, it never crossed my mind to use this in the classroom. I am looking forward to learning more about this as this training continues. I would like to see how maybe some of you all use it already as well.
Reply to Holly Voss's post: I think I update my course every year! I am always trying to incorporate new technology and techniques so that my student learn and RETAIN the information in my courses.
I agree with Huguette- due to the lack of face-to-face interaction, communication needs to be timely, frequent, and consistent...and I would even include positive and encouraging. Many online students are nontraditional students. Also, many are facing challenges that we don't know about, but might in a face-to-face class.
With online classes being accessible 24/7, sometimes my students think that I should be accessible 24/7. Creating a schedule and communicating that clearly to students is essential.
I took away an idea for having a discussion board so that students could help each other troubleshoot issues that arise. Hopefully, that will cut down on the number of emails I get at the beginning of the course.
Rubrics should have 4-8 components.
Rubrics make it clear what I as an instructor am looking for...but they can also hinder creativity.
