Activity

Develop action plans to assist learner transition from the preparation stage to the action stage.

Building confidence with the learner will foster a strong foundation for action plan is "learner confidence."

Teach the learner in stages | Throughout the process check with the learner to ensure understanding.

Strengthening commitment helps learners plan their next steps.

Embracing commitment language strongly suggests a readiness to take action in MI.

  • Setting goals.
  • Each learner is different and requires a different learning plan.
  • Always incorporate the four fundamental learning processes for structing conversations (goal setting).
  • Most importantly, listen to the learner to uncover their hopes, aspirations, values and reason to become more open to changes when it comes MI.

Learning how to equip students with the skills they need to make smart decisions. Also instilling the time to explore a student's values, goals, and interests can help a student recognize their own patterns of behavior and possibly motivate them to make better choices in the future.

Eastern Illinois University has implemented many career services for students.

1. Resume and cover letter sessions.

2. Job search strategies.

3. How to research employers.

At Vanderbilt University Medical Center, I have implemented a resume workshop that focuses on creating a resume, focusing on attention to detail, and the required attire for an interview.

Discussion Comment

I totally agree! I've learned more about the importance of Career Services in my current position as a Student Support Services Manager. We currently "do not" have a Career Services portion in our department. However, the executives are discussing implementing this service for the students. I'm sure the discussions here will be very helpful as I begin the process of implementing. Thanks so much for sharing, Madeline!

I begin working for Vanderbilt January 2023 and the Executive Vice President has a vision to create an Alumni Association. I would love to chat regarding the implementation.
