This has helped me teach students a standard process for setting up audio mixing consoles without having to constantly repeat myself in class. SSC- Sweet Sour Chicken - which really stands for Stereo mater fader Solo level Control room volumen
This is something that I do with my students from day one. I teach audio engineering (how to record and mix music). I tell students that I do not teach music I teach the engineering of music. The first few days of class I take them on a small tour of studios and small local clubs so they see what they are been trained for. This helps a lot in the future success of the student thru out the course and also in their career.
I teach audio engineering, this involves constantly listening to music. But before class I play a piece of music that gets the class ready for the days work. I'll usually play something similar to the work at hand, with this they now know the type of tonality and types of effects to use thru out the day.
This is something that I do with my students on a daily basis. To have them hear an audio effect (Reverb, Delays, compression, gating) and build that concrete memory helps them to picture that effect on other pieces of audio thru abstract memory.
From time to time I teach High Power Audio Amplifier Design, not the most exciting subject in world. But the use of interactive diagrams (that can be made with power point using hyperlinks) students can explore the subject easily and have an engaging class.
Students need motivation, that goes without saying. But as facilitators we need to make sure that students are ready for the challenge and to "prime" the student with a message like "Today is going to be exciting" That excitement will translate into success.

I teach recording arts and the best way for students to understand the rhythm and work flow of a studio is to be in one. I usually assign different roles to students and give them a dead line for a certain amount of work, this way students can see and understand the roll that they wil fill once they are done wit school.

The "U" to me is the best seating arrangement, students can see each other while asking a question, discussions are very easy to have and maintain because students are not constantly having to look over their shoulders.

This is one are that can be incredibly helpful (At least to me) I use a combination of guided notes and a presentation for some of my clases. I use keynote for presentation and remote control the presentation from my phone. The best part is that keynote displays the slide by slide notes I made on my phone. This gives me the ability to move around the classroom and guide students thru the guided notes. This way I can hit Visual and auditory learners and some Kinesthetic learners with the guided notes

Before a new class I always have a pre and post assessment test. This serves two functions: 1) It gives me a base line of knowledge for the class. 2) By showing students the pre and post they can see thier own progress, This helps to motivate a student.
