It’s important to be mindful of the various types of learners and behaviors the students have in order to thoroughly communicate with them as well as work through their challenges. Consistently communicate with the students to keep them engaged to eliminate the possibility of procrastination and lack of retention of the information given during the course.

Learning the differences between synchronous and asynchronous; how and when to use them in a discussion session, and responding promptly to the students will encourage participation in future discussions and activities.

I’ve learned the importance of building a strong rapport with the students. It keeps the door open for them to interact and stay engaged in their assignments with myself and their peers, although they aren’t entirely in person.

As an online facilitator, it's very important to become knowledgeable about the different avenues of online teaching so that our students become confident in their learning abilities and can successfully navigate through their online courses.
