In Admissions, Integrity is one of the cornerstones of compliance and should be adered to and practiced at all times. We are entrusted with the lives and futures of thousands of people looking to make a beter life for themselves and their families. I see this protocol as valuable because it weeds out those who may not be able to walk this fine line.

Connecting with our students is not the only way to measure success as an admissions manager or person. There are other dynamics to factor in as well such as "Team Building". This is one of the most effective ways to establish buy-in from your team. It shows them that you care about their well being, work life balance and success. This initiative also gives you the opportunity to do some fact finding about your team that we may often overlook because we are jammed with the day to day activities of driving the business.

Things like, "team pot-lucks, after work… >>>

Advanced listening took me many years to substantially tweak and I have yet to master it. I have many of the core concepts acquired but the treat is the train my team to be just as valuable to their students. We have an obligation to be much better communicators than our students to better navigate them thru all the potential pitfalls of going to school. To do this we must listen effectively and apply those advanced techniques to be of greater service.

Comment on Ricardo Martin's post: What point are you trying to convey here Ricardo? I would like to get a better understanding from you as to why and how effective communication is important for you?

Effective communication is the cornerstone of success for us here in Higher Ed. Without it, we lose the buy-in of our prospective students, parents, shareholders, employees and corporate partners. We must collectively learn to master the art of effective communication and better identify distress signals by activating our continuous training to the point of mastery. This is something that I rely on heavily in my professional life as well as my personal life.

Alot of times, body language can be picked up during a conversation. To maximize one's results, sometimes standing up allows us to project our voices better. Leaning into a phone all can also be picked up during a conversation. Voice inflection is crucial building rapport, establishing buy-in and closing a deal. We must constantly be aware of these factors when communicating in an online world.

Comment on Allyssa Thomas-Cooper's post: I agree with this post. The students of TODAY are not the same as the students of yesterday. They digest information in a different fashion and US as educators must learn to adapt to the way they learn best. More people are becoming visual learners and are looking to acquire the information faster. We must not allow ourselves to become dinosaurs in a business such as this.

Comment on Kimberly Rayford's post: Reviewing the content is going to be crucial in the way we digest this information. There are aspects that I am sure we are all aware of simply due to our life experiences but when ideas are quantified, there are intricacies to how we actually connect with one another as humans and peers.

Communication is an essential component that is heavily utilized in the workforce and necessitated due to the value of the information that is being conveyed via it's use. Therefore one must be cognizant in it's use by clearly identifying the purpose, the message being conveyed, the tonality and the perceived perception. This requires thought that most times need to be void of emotion.
