It was interesting to learn about when a school is considered to be on-notice, especially given it doesn't have to be the victim coming forward.
I wasn't fully aware of the history of title IX (other than sports) so seeing how it's evolved (and will continue to) was interesting. It's an important role at our institutions and having thorough annual training is important.
It's important that the student self-discloses. If their disability is obvious, then ensuring to ask how we can best assist them and make the experience positive is important.
as a general rule if you're thinking it costs too much or doesn't make sense, you're going down a slippery slope. It's a great way to self-check and re-evaluate the request being made. I also enjoyed the part about UD. It's not something I had thought much about before this session.
It was interesting to cover all different kinds of disabilities, especially the ones that are not 'seen', as they are the ones that students may not be comfortable sharing with us right away, but still need support with managing.
This is a topic that will continue to evolve. In my role it will important to develop annual trainings to help all departments understand and remain compliant and confident when handling questions regarding accommodation.
