Technology poses another layer to FERPA. Keeping records safe and working with e-signatures is important in today's environment. 

it was interesting to learn about how FERPA changes upon leaving (ie: graduation) the institution

I learned more about what can/cannot be released and when. 

Not everyone needs (or should have) access to all aspects of the student's records. I also wasn't aware about the handwritten notes part and when they become part of the record. 

consent is a big part of this. Current consent does not equal future consent; it can be withdrawn at any time. 

I found it interesting that a criminal complaint could have a different outcome then what an institution's outcome on their Title IX and VAWA findings.
