I didn’t know that it was illegal to ask someone during the admissions process if they have a disability. I’ll make sure not to do that

Each disability is different to some extent even if two students are blind or deaf their  level of deafness or how they learned to communicate with the disability is different and shouldn’t be seen as exactly the same.

Some cognitive disabilities exist such as trouble with dyslexia, math and writing to name a few. Learn disabilities and ADHD are also disabilities to take into consideration when teaching individuals. It may be that they have a disability not that they need more structure or more discipline.

Section 504 and ADA protect people with disabilities and level the playing field when it comes to education and advanced learning such as college or university settings. Students with disabilities are entitled to equal educational opportunities that without the accommodations wouldn’t be possible… such as a blind or deaf students seeking higher education.

There is someone on campus that is designated to help with students with disabilities.

Providing accommodation to a student with disabilities is an institutional responsibility. Make sure our institutions are following this practice

Students with disabilities are not new to the secondary school area of learning. Accommodations can be made to help these type learners and should be made. If a deaf student is attending a class making sure they have an interpreter present that can access.

Students with disabilities have the right to equal access to educational opportunities. These students are entitled to the same quality educational opportunities as those with no disabilities. accommodations  made to help these students are made in order to help them achieve their educational goal because without them the chances of them achieving their goals is harder and less likely. It helps to level the playing field.
