PLCs are one of the foundation to teaching and learning. I gives a community of collaboration and networking within a subject area. The main focus should always go back to our why!
Build agency in our students. Focus on the process, not the outcome.
Provide thinking opportunities for your students. SWOT means strength, weakness, opportunties, threats.
Lessons should allow studentst to openly collaborate. It is an important skill for students to practice because its a true life skill that many lack. Engagement leads to learning!
Students are social beings. They learn socially. Increase their participation in your class by allowing them to lead discussions, small talks, and activities. Facilitate!
Be aware. Use positive reinforcement. Sarcasm is not the best way. Work with an acting out student. Don't be so quick to dismiss them.
SUPPORT, SUPPORT, SUPPORT! Provide a safe haven for your students and advocate for them.
Get to know your students on a presonal level. Get involved by showing support at a theatre production, sport, or activity that they particiapte in. Show up, cheer, and make it a point to congratulate on job well done when you see them again.
Trauma happens in several forms. As educators, we need to be cognent to these. Not only for ourselves, but our students. Thus, allowing us to take the proper steps to help them.
PTSD affects many individuals, including young people. It is important for educators to know the warning signs and take the proper steps to ensure safety adn reporting.
