About me

Activity

The suggestions on the modules have been very helpful in stimulating my mind with a variety of new activities to bring to class. For those of you that have tried many of these activities with adult learners, which ones do you feel are most successful? My students have such a range in age and I don't want the adults to be unwilling to participate if they think the activity is too elementary. Every now and then I do get the occasional adult learner that is so set in their ways, it makes it hard to teach them when they don't… >>>

I already use word puzzles in my classes as a type of learning tool, while creating an activity for class time. The students seem to enjoy them, especially the crossword puzzles because they do require a little more thinking, and that allows them to interact and help each other. I would like to try the Make me a Match game, both in groups and as a class. I think they would be more excited and involved about learning medical terms. I may have to use the idea to create an organ vs. function type of match game for my anatomy… >>>

I like the games in this module, and will use a few of them in my classes in the near future. Definitely the ball toss and the flip chart race will be included in my courses. The variety of games listed here is very helpful, especially the fact that they don't all take a lot of time to prepare, but they seem to be wonderful tools to use. I'm going to give them a try.
The terminology course that I teach is overall somewhat short, but our class times are lengthy, which equates to covering significant amounts of material. I am always looking for new and fun ways to get my students engaged and involved. I think games are the way to go, making it a fun environment, therefore decreasing anxieties about learning the material. There are so many great suggestions posted, thanks to all and I am excited to learn more. I plan to implement these new strategies the next time I teach terminology.
