I learned that it stakes quantitative and qualitative evaluations from students, the institutions, peers and industry experts to properly review your course and make meaningful revisions.
I learned that "requiring students to self-assess prior to submitting assignments/projects for instructor evaluation gives them an opportunity to review and revise their work. Giving them a rubric for self-assessment helps them realize the importance of the objectives and of relating the designated criteria to their work. This in itself is a learning opportunity." I really like this tip and will be implementing it in my courses.
I really liked that idea to periodically obtain student feedback by asking three simple questions: What should we stop doing in this course?/What should we start doing in this course? /What should we continue doing in this course?
I learned that maintaining a Learning Objects database saves time, as the course developer can quickly sort, locate, and upload desired components.
I have learned that many of my social emotional instincts in written communication actually have academic names and are proven effective to relate to student.
I will definitely be delving into the resources provided in this course to stay abreast of the online education space.
Never make assumptions about their competency in these 7 areaa and give lots of guidance when putting together assignments to help them learn these skills alongside the course work.
I have found the hardest part of online teaching is that if a student fall off the radar, and I try to engage them or set up a meeting to assist or find out more, I may not ever be able to help them because there is no face to face or set touch point built in by the institution.
I had not used PBL in my film making courses but actually this course opened up the possibilities of how it could be an effective active learning technique.
I will implement a group work rubric in my classes. I also think the emphasis on continued feedback for student motivation is an important reminder.
