About me

Activity

I really enjoyed learning the six components in a comprehensive model of active learning. As I clicked thru each of the icons, I found myself setting up a lesson in my mind and implementing each of them. Perhaps the most challenging aspect will be "time." Knowing exactly how much time to allow might require a couple dry runs to really deliver the most effective lesson. Thank you for all of the excellent tips!

I was surprised to learn that 60% of persons with a severe literacy problem also has an undetected or untreated learning disability. It sounds as if many children go through school without their disability being detected. This negatively impacts their future. I can't help but to ponder if restricted testing or budgeting in elementary schools might have an impact on this stats...

When selecting an activity for use in my course, I will provide students with ways they can work together to solve problems and come to common solutions. I now plan on implementing more case based studies which will encourage teamwork with their peers to help foster and develop respect for what each student brings to the class.

We have learned that students who have a sense of security and feel confident believe that they are capable of accomplishing the task at hand. With this knowledge, I will be sure to carefully address all answers during classroom discussion even when the student response is not what I was looking for. For example, I will tell the student, "That is a great answer, however I believe you were referring to ..........."

Now that I recognize the value of the three types of assessment tools, diagnositc, formative, and summative, I will try to implement each type into my lessons. This will help me tailor the lesson to the students' needs (diagnostic), determine which topics I need to focus on more (formative), but also allow the student immediate feedback on their comprehension and value of the lesson (summative).

I have also learned that when I administer a test online, it is helpful to time it and shuffle the questions and/or answers to prevent cheating and ensure adequate assessment.

This is my first time instructing from an online platform. I will be utilizing the chat feature regularly to assess student engagement, critical thinking, and topic comprehension. I'm looking forward to the challenge and learning from this experience.

Loved the idea of making a to-do list and assigning a numerical value based on importance.

I really love this idea to engage peer learning and elicit discussions however, I instruct Oral Pathology and visualization of content is critical to learning. Any suggestions for buying time to pull up the necessary histological and clinical slides for explanation without stalling the peer to peer learning occuring in the classroom?

I am looking forward to starting a twitter site for the students to continue their educational journey.  After completing this course, I realize that this type of social media site provides the perfect platform to table content that reinforces what the students are learning as well as provoking critical thinking......can't wait to get started, thank you!

Wondering if copyright laws would apply to sites like this that was designed to be a public tutorial?
