Module 6: Assessment for Global Understanding

On this module I've reaffirmed the distinction between formative and summative assessments. Formative assessments, like ongoing reflections and classroom discussions, are essential for guiding student learning in real-time. They allow us to identify misconceptions, and adjust instruction accordingly. Summative assessments, such as final projects and presentations, serve to evaluate overall learning outcomes at the end of a unit or course.

In my own teaching practice, I've been utilizing signals, reflections, classroom discussions, exit slips, finished products, and presentations. However, I'm eager to expand my assessment repertoire. I'd like to learn more about skills checklists… >>>

Module 5: Internationalizing Your Instruction

The UN Sustainable Development Goals offer a powerful lens through which we can explore global issues and connect them to our curriculum. By integrating them into our lessons, we can guide students in becoming active agents of change and contribute to a more sustainable and equitable world

Faculty Module #4: Course Planning for Internationalization

I've gained a deeper understanding of the crucial role course planning has in preparing students for a globalized world. I've learned that it's not simply about adding international content, but about fundamentally shifting the pedagogical approach. I will actively seek out and integrate diverse perspectives and case studies into my lectures and readings.

Module 3: Engaging Diverse Students

I found this module particularly engaging due to its relevance to common classroom scenarios. I intend to adapt resources such as the Conversation Questions and the Getting to Know Your Students Questionnaire to enhance student participation and facilitate a smoother transition into the class.

Faculty Module #2: Developing a High-Quality Internationalized CTE Program

The module offered valuable insights to evaluate whether our current program adequately addresses the global needs of our students. By implementing the employability skills framework, adhering to the internationalization criteria for CTE programs, and incorporating the global social justice education framework, we can ensure that our curriculum is effectively preparing students for a globally competitive workforce.

Module #1 helped me understand the critical role global competence plays in preparing students for success. I learned that global competence is more than just knowledge of different cultures; it encompasses a wide range of skills, including critical thinking, problem-solving, cultural awareness, and effective communication.

I intend to incorporate more global perspectives into my curriculum: using real examples from around the world, discussing global issues and current events, and encouraging students to collaborate with their classmates. Additionally, I plan to create a classroom environment that fosters cultural understanding and respect.

The introductory module was  clear and accessible, providing a comprehensive overview of the program. As a final-year English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teacher candidate, this information will be invaluable for securing employment and fostering meaningful connections with both students and colleagues
