Activity

I have reflected on this content and believe a positive ChatGPT can have on education is availability 24/7 that synthesizes internet searches to digestible results. A negative ChatGPT can have on education is offering hallucinations confidently which can purport misinformation. In my classroom, I intend to use this knowledge to guide students in ethical use of AI.

I have learned about various uses of AI in real world settings. I can envision updating my syllabi and slide shows quicker; if I can attach my file and give AI the dates I want for the updated version, I save significant time and reduce the likelihood of errors.

I have learned about the evolution of artificial intelligence and its emergence into contemporary fields like manufacturing and education. I will apply my AI knowledge in conversations with students and to help them apply best practices and ethical usage.

This module has deepened my understanding of collaborative and problem-based learning (PBL) as effective tools for fostering critical thinking in online environments. I learned that PBL encourages students to engage with real-world scenarios, which helps them integrate prior knowledge while developing innovative solutions. I intend to apply this by creating collaborative activities that encourage students to solve problems together and critically analyze different perspectives.

I have learned the importance of setting clear communication expectations and providing ongoing, varied assessments throughout the course; these are essential to keeping students motivated and on track.

I intend to apply these insights by utilizing a mix of technology tools to enhance interaction and participation in my online courses. I plan to incorporate small video segments, group projects, and reflective writing exercises that leverage multimedia tools, which will allow students to synthesize information and collaborate in new ways.

From this module, I have developed a greater appreciation for active learning techniques. Active learning demands more planning and effort on both the students' and instructors' parts. I intend to plan carefully and balance power in the classroom to optimize student learning outcomes.

Active learning as a key instructional strategy was the lead takeaway so far for me. I like that the focus shifts from age-old instructor at podium lecturing to the "sage on the stage" approach. I intend to apply this knowledge by providing interactive activities and peer-to-peer communications like in discussion boards. Formative assessment can be used alongside collaborative activities in order to engage students deeply with material.

Comment on Magen Goforth's post: I like that you point out how important rapport with our students can be. Without mutual respect and trust, learning is stifled.

I think one of the most powerful takeaways is the emphasis on responsive facilitation. When we provide descriptive feedback in democratic learning environments, students are empowered and build confidence. Shifting the center of the classroom from instructor to student-lead takes a great deal of effort and training. Instead of focusing on who is leading, I intend to further make my classrooms collaborative, shared learning environments with skill acquisition that is immediately applicable in adults' lives.
