About me

I have been teaching in certificate programs for four years. My past training and experience as a medical assistant doing all fascets of the medical office has been a great help in presenting materials to students. I also feel that everyone has the right to an education and anyone who has the desire to succeed can and will succeed.

Dr. Meers,

I, too, have seen this. What is rough is when the school uses modules which last only 5 weeks and meet twice a week for four hours. The students have a second class during that time as well with the same or more amount of homework. Many of them work fulltime jobs, have children, and a home to care for. How does an instructor advise and help students who find the whole scheme overwhelming? I have done the Landmark Education Forum and find myself that teaching fulltime and being a fulltime student is hard but have learned to… >>>

Sherri,

You are so right! I find that if I teach the same class in the morning and then again in the afternoon I cannot use the exact same methods. My mind will not function the second time the way it did in the morning. I then use different methods to teach the same material or mix up the order of what I will do. Not only do students need variety but so do instructors.

The Internet is a good tool for finding new ways to do things and new, interesting material. Textbooks take a year to come out and… >>>

I want to sue triage case studies to show why anatomy and physiology is so important to learn. Does anyone know of any Internet sites where I can find these? I would appreciate the help. Thanks!
I find that almost each module there is one to four students that I get in my classes that are extremely difficult to motivate. I have had some students tell me that they were in school because they had be since they could not find a job. These students pick health care because there are more available jobs in this field. I strongly get the impression from some students that they are just there to take up space. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can get these students motivated?
Instructors need to take time to go over materials, create supplemental materials, and to have all handouts, etc. ready for class before the class starts. Coming in 30 or 15 minutes early will not work since as Murphy Law states "if something can go wrong it will". To avoid rushing and your students getting the impression that you are not prepared or organized prepare everything as far in advance as possible.

I find that students in my classes want to know what is going to be on their tests and the answers they need to study. This takes the critical thinking aspect out of the equation. It does not help if someone else teaching the same subject will do this. It can also hurt class retention when the students want this and do not get it. Often they stop coming and do not seek or accept help. Students become overwhelmed by the amount of material they need to study in a short period of time which is what happens in excelerated… >>>
