Viola, I totally understand! It definitely adds a whole other level of anxiety to the mock interview but..it is so helpful to see yourself in action--maybe on the 3rd or 4th practice interview? Elizabeth Kemler
Viola, Ongoing mock interview practice is indeed essential--I like your idea of having students interview one another as well. Viewing videos is great as it really highlights the importance of 'soft skills'. Are you able to videotape your students doing their mock interviews? Elizabeth Kemler
Viola, I couldn't agree more! Soft skills are increasingly identified by employers as even more important to them than technical ability which can often be improved on the job. Elizabeth Kemler
Viola, I like your idea of "branding" as that's a concept modern day students 'get' and can get excited about doing for themselves. Also treating the cover letter and resume as a single unit of sorts makes good sense--being sure that they are sending a consistent message about who the candidate is. Elizabeth Kemler
Viola, This is crucial and unfortunately not done often enough; I'm sure it helps your graduates immensely to know that you are still there to encourage and offer them support in their job search even after they've graduated. Elizabeth Kemler
Viola, Again, you seem to be well versed in all things career prep! Elizabeth Kemler
Viola, These are all excellent ways of getting students excited about their prospects in the field while educating them on what to expect once they get there. Elizabeth Kemler
Karina, How many mock interviews do you typically do with your students? Elizabeth Kemler
Karina, This is certainly good advice; could you tell me how you stay in touch with your students/graduates to offer such reminders and other support? Elizabeth Kemler
Melissa, These are all great reminders, sometimes though its hard to take this in when you're feeling discouraged. What kind of ongoing support do you provide for your graduates throughout the job search? Elizabeth Kemler
