Face your fears in changing your teaching methods. This course made me aware of some things that I have to change to be an effective promotor of knowledge and skills.

I found this course trigger self-reflection on my own soft skills.  There were areas where I was made aware needed to improve; suggestions were offered on how to overcome the weakness.  I was thrilled to read the Pennsylvania survey which I can use to impact students who resist the need to build their soft skills.  I think this is truly a course all instructors could use.

Your Surprise section helped turn a light bulb on. Adding brain teasing activities at the start of class can warm up the minds of students to prepare them for the lecture coming it. I like the idea of dividing them into groups to solve the problem. A reward could be added as extra points for the day, or letting them go a little earlier than the rest of the class.
Going over these concepts under these names refreshed and refined my understanding on how to effectively help my students retain content. I highly recommend this rather intensive course to all educators. I think it should be a required course.
I have to employ several techniques. I make a basic seating chart, and as the students stand up to answer introductory question such as "What I am known for" I will note down their name, a physical characteristic and a point of what they shared. I will also have them put up a name tent using a 5X7 card. The students will pick up and return the card daily. I use these cards to take attendance, divide students into new groups daily, and put personal notes to the students.
