Activity

Many of the options listed are a bit more challenging to reach students who are spread out all over the area, since our school is a bit more rural.  Students struggle with real-life issues, and many do not have the resources needed to achieve success.  Since many of our programs are online, many of the instructors and staff are only available through Zoom or Teams-type meetings.  We are working on creating a virtual bulletin board where students can go to connect with other students i.e. carpool, class study groups, babysitting etc.  We are constantly trying to figure out better ways… >>>

The most important aspect of the dynamics of intervention is to build trust.  Trust is earned by meeting expectations and providing satisfaction.  Students must feel that we are committed to the student.  

 

Everyone within the organization must be focused on the Student's success. Everyone must empathize with the student and not send the perceived message that "It's hour problem, not the schools." We must always send strong signals that we care about the student.  

Everyone at the school from the receptionist to the admissions to the instructors and even the janitorial staff has a role in helping maintain student retention.  I have been in many work situations where folks indicate that "is not their job," but retention is everyone's job.  As a student services representative, it is disconcerting when we lose students based on the fact that they felt they were not listened to and that their concerns were not addressed.  It seems that communication breaks down and questions are not asked to find out what the issue is as to why students are… >>>
