I learned that you can counsel a student via email or a chat session, but the communications need to be private and saved for documentation. I also learned that one way to identify noisy students in an online learning environment is to monitor students who get off the subject for the assigned discussion topic and introduce new topics. Lastly, conducting a survey that focuses on tools needed to complete assignments at the beginning of a course may help you identify students who are intimidated by technology. This is helpful because some students drop out of the course as a result… >>>

I have learned the importance of understanding students’ learning styles so that an educator can effectively engage students and manage students' behaviors. Avoidant, competitive, and dependent learning styles are important to identify as early as the first day of class, because they prevent student participation and learning. Once you identify them, work hard to change them and guide students to adopt collaborative, participant, and independent learning styles so that they can be active participants in the learning environment.

I have learned it is vital to project your presence in an online learning environment. I intend to apply what I have learned by ensuring:

(1)  I answer student questions as soon as possible and provide feedback that is constructive and comprehensible.

(2)  Send scheduled reminders for upcoming deadlines for assignments.

I have learned the importance of intellectual interaction.

I intend to ensure there is intellectual interaction by ensuring the student online interaction examines what they learned from the lesson. I can ask questions in the midst of the lesson, ask students to give examples based on what they learned, or create an engaging activity that requires students to reflect on what they learned.
