I think it is always helpful to engage students by having them relate personal experiences.  It ties the material to experiences the students had in the past and may make new learning connections both for them and others.

I thought it reinforced the idea that everyone brings someting to the table.  Everyone has a story or experiene that others may be able to learn from.  Instructors should encourage students to share these experiences.

I am going to go back and review our current policies at our institution and see if we are in full compliance.  I am also going to review my own role in the process

I learned what can and cannot be released, and under what circumstances.  Interesting exceptions apply as well.

Hello all,

I enjoyed the refresher on the various topics regarding FERPA; i felt I had a reasonably good understanding of most concepts based on experience and prior trainihg.  But, what I did not know is that personal notes are not part of educational records (generally).  That was a surprise to me.

So far, so good.  I will try to keep learning.
