Hi everyone my name is Dr. Grace Telesco and I am a full time faculty member of AIU online. I possess a Ph.D. in Social Welfare from Fordham University and a Masters in CJ from John Jay College of CJ and teach CJ at AIU. I am also an Ordained Interfaith Minister and Dean of a local Interfaith Seminary.

Why don't students attend live chats nor watch them?

This is ongoing cry of the online instructor. Why don't student attend the live chats? For me it is not as important as at least getting them to watch the arvhied recording. The way in which I try to motivate them into the live chat room or at least watch the archived recording is to mention this in their feedback in the gradebook as well as email and also announcements. While it is exciting for me when 3 or 4 students attend a live chat, it is as gratifying to discover that a student has actually watched the recording and… >>>

Power points and website learning

I have found that posting powerpoints from live chats covered help students to reinforce the objectives of the lesson. It is unclear how many actually watch the live chat and how many have downloaded the powerpoints in learning materials. This might be something helpful that the institution can provide by tracking downloads.

A Classroom Management Technique Instructors can Learn from Managers

In the online classroom what I find to be very helpful in engaging discussion is posting an article or link and ask the class to discuss based on the topic we are covering - It is ungraded but really stimulates discussion beyond the "cookie cutter" discussion board posts we tend to see.
