Netiquette is also an important aspect to managing courses. Staying active in discussions and reminding students (privately) to review these policies could be necessary at times. 

I have found that giving student some choice in their assessments is helpful. For example, write a paragraph OR create a short video that addresses the prompt etc. 

I find it helpful to be present during discussion boards as well, it gives the students a sense of support and encouragement.
