Hello! I am Helga Martinez, a Higher Education Academic Counselor. I have been at this position for two years after taking part as a Faculty Lead for three years all within the same institution. I am passionate about my students' achievements, and as such take special interest in learning as much as possible about admissions and its bylaws in order to reinforce their admission processes knowledge.

I believe in creating a strong communication link with students. By continuosly providing feedback on their progress, students are aware of where they stand and what's needed to continue improving. This has proven to be a great technique to keep the students engaged in the calssroom objectives.
It is imperative to develop and implement a system in which the institution and the student (prospective student) have a clear constant communication to facilitate admissions processes. This effort has to be constant and should beginning with marketing strategies and first time orientations, followed by admissions, and with continuity during the life of the student within that organization through academic counseling

Keeping up with rules and regulations in a challenge; so much information to capture, process and transmit could be intense. It is a good idea to involve fellow professionals to discuss them before they ae implmented and discussed.
Self management is a very important component within any administration and leadership
The success of our students’ employment is influenced by many structural barriers; however the school should begin modeling behaviors and addressing skills needed to enter the work force beyond what is offer in the curriculum.

It is very challenging to deal with a variety of learning styles all at once; but it can also be fun and rewarding for there is at least one activity liked by most. More often than not, adult students come to the classroom after complying with their "real life" responsibilities such as work and family matters. One technique that is very inclusive of all students while reinforcing what was learned is to play games. I adapt table games such as Pictionary after a lecture or presentation.
