I was raised to be a worker in CC, TX picking cotton in the fields in the summer for 12 years. My mother wanted us NOT to be lazy and to be able to work to provide a family. I come from a family of 5. My Dad was a plumber as all of us are now. My brother has a business in Houston. I joined the military Army after high school to get the support to go to college after a three year hitch. My brother had gone to the Vietman War 4 years earlier. I planned on seeing him there but was sent to NJ to study telephone. After my three years in the Army as a Ranger, I decided to stay for 6 more due to the 20,000 bonus I would recieve. I thought what job gives you a bonus to stay in your job? I was pretty naive back in the 70's (smile).
I blinked and finished 21 years as an Airborne Special Forces Ranger Medic. I guess my career would be medical and now I am here.
I worked 8 years as a Paramedic on the streets of EL Paso, 3 years as Respiratory Theraptist, and 4 years as an Educational Nursing Manager at a University before becoming an RN.
After becoming an RN I worked on the Med/Surg floor for 2 years, then moved on to correctional facility. During those times I also worked as a LTAC, ICU, and Hospice. I took my first job as a correctional Director whilce I finished my MSN from Phoenix. I continued to work in Adminstration in nursing homes and Skilled nursing facilities.
As you noticed I studied during those times as all hard working EL Pasoans and received my degrees from EPCC, Health Occuptions, Psychology, Respiratory, Paramedic, and Pre-nursing while teaching CPR on weekends at EPPC.
I then moved on to UTEP and completed my Health Sciences bachelors degree, Masters in Education with a minor in Psychology, and continued to work at UTEP as a Simulabortory tech while pursuing my Nursing Fast Track degree.
I ended up teaching Nursing at UTEP for 12 years and Texas Tech for 2 years in nursing.
I currently (7/20)just finished 1 year on the road as a traveling RN working in Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Arizona. My wife and I enjoyed it.
I now teach here in Western Tech College and find the students very determined and willing to work. I look forward to assist these students to achieve their dreams.
